Halsey reflects on their fortunate survival following a period of health difficulties.
Grammy-nominated singer Halsey reveals she's "lucky to be alive" amid her health struggles.
Although the 29-year-old didn't specify her conditions, she hinted at lupus and leukemia diagnoses in an Instagram post.
In a series of photos and videos, she's seen in hospital, describing feeling "like an old lady."
"Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive," she wrote in the caption, announcing her new album.
Halsey shared the health update alongside news of her fifth studio album and its lead single, "The End."
In it, she reflects on how "every couple of years now, the doctor says I'm sick."
The US singer-songwriter, also known as Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, gained fame for her track "Closer" with The Chainsmokers and her platinum-selling debut album, "Badlands."
"I've given myself two more years to be sick," she says in the Instagram video.
"When I'm 30, I’ll undergo a rebirth, free from illness. I’ll exude confidence, vitality, and embrace my 30s as a fresh start."
Halsey has openly discussed her health challenges, revealing a history of illnesses including endometriosis, Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, Sjogren's syndrome, and mast cell activation syndrome. Her health deteriorated during her pregnancy with her son, Ender, in 2021.
She hinted at receiving treatment for lupus and leukemia by tagging the Lupus Research Alliance and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in her post.
In one video, she's shown undergoing treatment in a hospital, while in her new song, she sings about "poison" in her blood and starting treatment.
Leukemia, a type of cancer affecting white blood cells, is typically treated with chemotherapy, according to the NHS. Lupus, a complex autoimmune condition, can affect various organs and be life-threatening.
After sharing her story, Halsey received an outpouring of support from fans, with her post garnering over a million likes and thousands of comments.
