Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the cyclone-hit areas of Mathbaria, Patharghata, and Kalapara. Cyclone Remal caused severe damage, destroying homes and fish farms.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the southern regions most impacted by Cyclone Remal today. She inspected areas such as Mathbaria in Pirojpur, Patharghata in Barguna, and Kalapara in Patuakhali to assess the situation.
Mathbaria and Patharghata were among the hardest-hit when the cyclone struck the Bangladesh coast on Sunday, causing tidal surges and torrential rains that damaged homes, trees, and fish farms.
To get a better view of the damage, the prime minister's helicopter flew low over the affected regions. The helicopter landed at Khepupara Govt Model Secondary School in Kalapara, Patuakhali, at 12:20 pm after a 90-minute flight from Dhaka.
Hasina is scheduled to distribute relief at Government Mozaharuddin Biswas Degree College and will later visit the Shaheed Sheikh Kamal Bridge on the Patuakhali-Kuakata road. She will also meet with divisional officials to review relief efforts and assess immediate rehabilitation needs.
After her day-long visit, Hasina is expected to return to Dhaka by 3:00 pm. Cyclone Remal has claimed several lives, destroyed over 35,000 homes, and severely affected more than 3.7 million people in 19 districts. The storm made landfall near Khepupara, Patuakhali, with wind speeds reaching up to 130 km/h. In Patuakhali alone, 327,000 people were affected, and the agricultural and fishery sectors suffered losses exceeding Tk 540 million
